Putters' Club
HOW DO I START A PUTTERS' CLUB AT MY CLUB? WHAT IS A "PUTTERS’ CLUB?" In its simplest form, it is friends getting together and putting. It is as much social as it is a test of skill. Most Putters' Clubs are formed within a golf club. Weekly tournaments are organized and a new "course" is set up on the practice putting green each week. Each Putters' Club can establish rules, but if competing between clubs, rules need to be consistent. We can provide a practical set of rules for course layout, handicaps, and penalties at your request. The original Ladies Putters' Club started about 125 years ago at St. Andrew's in Scotland. Originally, groups were made up of friends who got together to play, and the rules were made up as they went along. You could start a Putters Club at your club as a way to compete and socialize with members of your own club, or encourage other local clubs to start their own and compete with them. HOW DO I START A PUTTERS CLUB? First, you would need to contact your Pro to see if the Putters Club could reserve the Practice Putting Green for about one hour a week. Next, post signs to attract players. This is a great way to attract members who may not be golfers, but want to participate in golf activities. It is also a great alternative for "previous" golfers who find even 9 holes too much, but miss the camaraderie of their golfing friends. Finally, plan social events after the Putting Competition. Some groups have lunch at the club, or go to different restaurants. There are Jack and Jill events, Wine Tasting, Bridge, or whatever social activities are appealing to your members. One other aspect of the Putters Clubs involves the Pro. Some pros give a brief clinic before the "competition." This is not necessary but just an idea. WHAT IS THE PRIZE? Everyone puts in $2 or $3 in a Kitty before the round begins. The winners are paid off from the amount collected in the Kitty that day. Of course, golf jewelry is also a nice prize! We have specific items that could be used to identify the Putters' Club Members that they would wear on the Putters' Club Day. We also have broach pins or trophies that are just for putters. CLICK ON "PUTTERS' CLUB" ON THE LEFT NAVIGATION BAR TO SEE SOME OF OUR PUTTERS’ CLUB ITEMS. HOW DO YOU SET UP A COURSE? The job of setting up the course before a regular "Putting Day" or Tournament can be done either by your pro or a Greens Committee from your Putting Group. If you have a Pro, this may be the preferred choice as it could be said that the committee would have a preview of the course before the tournament. With arrows in hand, you approach the course, which already has holes cut with numbered tees. Hole #1 will determine the flow of the course since the arrow for Hole #2 will be in close proximity to Hole #1 so the Putters can move from hole to hole without crossing the greens where others would be putting. There are general guidelines for the distance between each Hole. For example, some holes are as close as 15 feet while others may be 30 feet apart. More information of the course "Set Up" can be sent to you. WHAT ARE THE RULES? There are explicit guidelines that are too long to list here. Contact us and we will send you a copy of the Rules, Handicaps and Penalties – no obligation! WHY ARE WE PROMOTING A PUTTERS CLUB? We saw several Putters' Clubs in action while in the Palm Spring area, and thought it was a great idea. We not only own a golf jewelry business, but also play golf. We would like to see other areas enjoy this concept. Of course, we hope that all groups buy our affordable tac pins that would identify the Putters Group on their Tournament days however; we will send you the information to help you get started with no obligation. Hopefully, when your Putters Club is a success you will think of us for prizes and awards. PUTTER'S CLUB ITEMS |
